"Research has shown that writing plays a key role in the development of early literacy skills," said Merlene Stiles, Education/Outreach Coordinator at KSMQ. "The PBS KIDS GO! Writers Contest leverages the reach and resources of public media to encourage kids to tap into these important skills. Judging from the response we received, it is apparent that the children are indeed eager for these resources and this type of platform.”

About the Contest
PBS, KSMQ Public Television and Austin Kiwanis partnered together to launch the PBS KIDS GO! Writers Contest. The national-local contest designed to promote the advancement of children’s reading skills through hands-on, active learning. The PBS KIDS GO! Writers Contest extends the powerful tradition and annual success of the 15-year Reading Rainbow Young Writers and Illustrators Contest, which typically had over 45,000 entries each year.
