About the Series...

Family Connections is designed to help parents, caregivers, teachers, and others nurture and grow children’s learning skills. We will engage guests and viewers with topics such as Education, Child Development, Health Care and parental concerns. We welcome your calls, questions and experiences to share with our studio hosts and expert guests so as to help support and strengthen the family.

Deployment in the Family

Airs on Friday, February 26 at 6:30 p.m.
Encore presentations on Sunday, February 28 at 10:30 a.m.
and Monday, March 1 at 11 a.m.

In this episode, host Alice Englin discusses deployment in the family with guests Beverly Mueller and Barb Kuhlman. How can stress affect a family when a parent is away in the military? We discuss how and where the family can get help to deal with this difficult and frightening situation.

Alice Englin

Alice is the facilitator for the Freeborn County Family Services and Children?s mental health initiative and Action Team Manager for Freeborn County Thrive Initiative which promotes the healthy social and emotional development of our youngest children. She earned a Bachelors of Arts degree in Communications from University of Iowa and has completed several professional trainings on improving the lives of children and families.

Vicki Langrell

Vicki has a Masters Degree in Education and Bachelors of Science degree in Business Marketing. She was a tenured faculty member of Walla Walla Community College and served as president of Parent Cooperative Preschool in Walla Walla, Washington.

She served her country as an Officer in the US Army achieving decorations such as: Army Achievement Medal (twice), Reserve Component Overseas Training Ribbon and Airborne Badge. She has served her community with many volunteering commitments.

David Larson, MS, CPCC

David is a life fulfillment coach, psychologist and public speaker. David created The Institute of Wellness and co-founded Triumph Leadership, devoted to the development of business and community leaders.

In addition to his accomplishments he is also an author of the popular e-book, How to stop your anxiety now! and he has produced the CD, Serenity: Guided Imagery for Health and Life provides meditations for balance and clarity of mind.

He has worked with youth and families in New Zealand, Papua New Guinea and southern Minnesota and northern Iowa.

Carolyn Osmonson

Carolyn enjoys being involved with the community and has been exploring her interests in media and television production because of her support for Public Broadcasting. She is devoted to her positive support to her coworkers as a mentor and the children in her family.

Carolyn is a customer service representative.

Host

Kim Otten

Kim has a Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural Business from the University of Minnesota. She has experiences in finance as a bank examiner traveling throughout the Midwest and southwestern Unites States. She has also helped to run a small family business.

Kim has been involved in her community participating with 4-H, Science Fair and Math Masters. Her family has hosted three foreign exchange students from Peru, France and Chile.
